The vast Provencal vineyard extends over nearly 200 km long, from east to west, from Nice to the south of Avignon, and over 60 km wide between the “Alpilles” and the Mediterranean. Provence stands out as the leading region in France for the production of rosés. The soils are generally well drained and shallow, without excess humidity: terroirs favorable to the development of vines. With governmental Environmental actions in 2011, the number of farms with "High Environmental Value" (HVE) has increased exponentially. The winegrowers adopt essential practices of low environmental impact regulations, the measurement of environmental performance thresholds in terms of biodiversity and low dependence on inputs. It is also the second region in France in organic viticulture practice, with 19% of its vineyard areas converted or in conversion.
